Respect constitutionalism, FODEP urges Lungu

President Edgar Lungu has been called upon to walk the talk in advocating for the respect for constitutionalism and the rule of law.

The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) is urging government to do so not only at continental but also at country level.

Executive Director Chimfwembe Mweenge says his organization wants President Lungu to guide his Members of Parliament and his party to respect constitutionalism and the rule of law.

Mr. Mweenge states that FODEP wants President Lungu to do so with the same vigor he showed when recently addressed an Africa Union (AU) delegation at State House.

In a statement to Qfm News Mr. Mweenge says FODEP thinks that President Lungu will be contradicting him if does not to advocate for constitutionalism and respect for the rule of law in his own country.

Mr. Mweenge states that his organization is appalled that whilst the Head of State is advocating for constitutionalism and rule of law at continental level, his party does not seem responsive.

He notes that this is evidenced by the moving of a motion in Parliament by PF Mwansabombwe MP Rodgers Mwewa to urge government to amend the Country’s constitution.

Mr. Mweenge says FODEP prays that President Lungu will not allow him fall prey to such ill-timed and misconceived political machinations by his MPs to manipulate the Country Supreme law.

He states that President Lungu must avoid the temptation by his MPs and PF members of walking the path of scratched legacy and democratic credentials.
