The United Nations (UN) system in Zambia has commended government for the recent recruitment of over 30,000 teachers and the impending recruitment of 11,200 health workers.

UN Resident Coordinator Beatrice Mutali says the recruitment of teachers and health workers is a demonstration of the Zambian government’s determination to attain universal access to quality education and health services.

Ms Mutali who was speaking in Lusaka today when she paid a courtesy call in information and Media Minister and Chief Government Spokesperson Chushi Kasanda, notes that the two are key ingredients of sustainable national development.

She has also commended government for democratizing the country’s media space which she says has led to the increase in the number of media organizations especially radio stations.

Ms Mutali adds that the UN is also happy that Zambia, through the ministry of information and media, is making efforts towards enacting the Access to Information legislation and encouraging media self-regulation.

Meanwhile Ms Mutali has disclosed that the UN system in Zambia is finalizing the development of a Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework to guide its support to Zambia for the period 2023-2027.

She explains that the cooperation framework, which is fully aligned to the 8th National Development Plan, underpins the cooperation between the Government of Zambia and the UN system in the country.

And Information and Media Minister Chushi Kasanda says government values and appreciates the support the UN system in Zambia has continued to render to Zambia.

Ms Kasanda says the new dawn government is committed and determined to ensure that it delivered development to the people of Zambia.
