Parley approves K3.9 billion 2016 supplementary budget

Parliament has approved a K3.9 billion supplementary budget for the 2016 National Budget.

Moving the motion on the supplementary estimates, Finance Minister Felix Mutati told the House that the changes to the 2016 national budget are necessary to allow government spends on repayments of domestic debt and expenditure of operations of public institutions whose funds are exhausted.

Mr. Mutati says the motion moved is in line with provisions of the law in Article 202 of the Constitution of Zambia that mandates the Minister of Finance to move a motion in parliament to approve the supplementary budget.

He explains that the K490 million was released to various government institutions by cooperating partners in form of grants but where not budgeted for in the financial year 2016.
