The Professional Teachers Union of Zambia (PROTUZ) has observed the need for government to adjust teachers’ salaries upwards given the current high cost of living in the country.

PROTUZ Secretary General Kangwa Musenga says with the recent hike in fuel prices, this will result in most goods and services to go high which will be difficult for teachers to survive.

Mr. Musenga says the union conquers with the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) for government and other bodies to start negotiating for workers’ pay rise given the high cost of living in the country.

He says government says it is only correct that the government considers to adjust upwards the wages of civil servants saying most of the things will go up while the salaries of workers will remain unchanged which will result in most teachers failing to support their families.
