Lungu urged to promote media freedoms

HabasondaPresident Edgar Lungu has been urged to ensure that media freedoms in the country are not only protected, but are also promoted and expanded.

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) President Lee Habasonda says this is the only way President will leave a legacy of good leadership for himself.

He has reminded President Lungu that he will need the media once he has left office.

Mr. Habasonda has told QFM that TIZ is therefore appealing to the President to ensure the media is allowed to operate freely.

Mr. Habasonda says if the media begin to be closed down as is the case with the Post newspapers; it will paint a bad picture of Zambia.

He states that it is everyone’s concern that the media landscape in Zambia is no longer the same, and that this is impacting negatively on the country’s reputation and democracy.
