The Zambia Airports Corporation Limited has confirmed that Qatar Airways, one of the Five Star Airlines in the world, will commence flights to Lusaka during the first quarter of 2017.

Zambia Airports Corporation Communications and Brand Manager Mweembe Sikaulu has told Journalists in Lusaka that this will provide the Zambian traveler with a wider choice of travel options and indeed increased capacity to support both passenger travel and cargo movement.

Ms Sikaulu says the commencement of Qatar Airways flights will also help boost the country’s tourism sector.

Meanwhile, the Zambia Airports Corporation Limited has disclosed that it has remained steady during the third quarter of 2016.

Ms Sikaulu says the airports saw passenger numbers increase by 1.3 percent when compared with the same period last year.

She says records indicate that a total of 456, 750 passengers passed through the four main international airports namely KK International Airport, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe, Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula and Mfuwe.

Ms Sikaulu has however indicated that the ZACL saw a decline in cargo movement when compared to the same period last year as number decreased by 5.4 percent.
