Zambia will for the second time host a Retreat of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union from 7 to 9 November.

The country in 2008 hosted the Fourth African Union Peace and Security Council Retreat.

Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba has told a media briefing that top on the agenda of the retreat is the discussion on the root causes of violent conflict on the continent.

Mr. Kalaba says the Retreat will be held under the theme: “Practical Steps to Silence the Guns in Africa by the year 2020”

He says Zambia will continue to play an active role in regional and continental efforts towards the maintenance of peace and security in Africa.

He adds that Zambia will remain committed to the 2063 African Union Agenda which seeks to transform African into a peaceful and prosperous continent.

Mr. Kalaba states that Zambians role in promoting regional peace remains an integral part of its foreign policy objectives under the Patriotic Front Government.
