QFM emerges top for neutrality in coverage

The fourth and final report of the elections media monitoring project has named QFM as the only media institution among selected public, private and community media houses in the country that gave 100 percent neutral coverage to the ruling Patriotic Front, opposition UPND and Government with regards the coverage of the 2016 elections.

The report which has been compiled by the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia Chapter in partnership with the Media Liaison Committee (MLC) has indicated that the coverage of the PF and the UPND by other media houses both public and private ranged from explicitly positive to explicitly negative and mixed.

It has indicated that the public media covered the PF and the government on a more positive note while UPND was covered more explicitly negative.

The report has further indicated that government received majority of the coverage across all media in the country seconded by the ruling Patriotic Front.

The selected media institutions surveyed include ZNBC,Muvi TV,Zambia Daily Mail,Times of Zambia,Sky fm,Hot fm,the DailyNation,The Post,Radio Phoenix Breeze FM and QFM.

Others are radio Mano,radio Ichengelo ,radio Liseli and radio Kabangabanga.

And speaking at the launch of the report in Lusaka last evening, Minister in the Office of the Vice President Sylvia Chalikosa implored the media to always try and balance their stories as well as stick to ethical standards.

In a speech read on her behalf by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services Director for Media Development Isaac Chipampe, Ms Chalikosa encouraged the media to make necessary follow ups on issues affecting the electorate.
