About 48 million Kwacha is expected to be spent towards the procurement of various school requisites for 80,000 vulnerable girls under the Keeping Girls in School Project.

KGS Project Coordinator Willie Kaputo tells Q-news that a total of K600 is being given to each beneficiary this year to assist with buying of school requisites under the education grant component which is part of the KGS project being implemented in 49 districts across the country.

Mr. Kaputo states that the grant has also made it possible for the payment of boarding fees for beneficiaries which will amount to K45.9 million  for this year.

He is optimistic that the KGS project will this year record a higher progression and school completion rate building on last year’s rate where a 73 percent progression rate was recorded and 93 percent of girls in grade 12 sat for their exams.
