Siavonga Magistrate convicts two for theft by public servant

A Pharmacy Technologist at the Chirundu District Health Office in Southern Province has been convicted and sentenced to 2-years imprisonment with hard labour suspended for 12 months for Theft by Public Servant.

His accomplice was also convicted and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour suspended for 6 months for the offence of theft.

This is in a matter where the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority-ZAMRA in September 2021 while working in conjunction with the Zambia Police Service apprehended Ceaser Kagoli aged 35 of High Cost area, Chirundu and Joseph Kasongo aged 29 of Garden House, Lusaka and charged them with Theft by Public Servant and Theft of Government Medicines worth K35,803.00, respectively contrary to the Laws of Zambia. 

ZAMRA Public Relations Officer, Ludovic Mwape says the matter was brought before the Siavonga Magistrate Court where Ceaser Kagoli and Joseph Kasongo both pleaded not guilty to the charge on 19th October, 2021.

Mr. Mwape says duo was found guilty for the offence and convicted accordingly on 31st May, 2022. 

He has since warned all those who commit similar offences that ZAMRA is equal to the task of ensuring that no government medicines are found with unauthorized persons.
