Zambians urged to challenge social norms promoting various forms of discrimination

UNAIDS Chief Executive Director Winnie Byanyima has urged Zambians to challenge social norms that promote various forms of discrimination.

In the same vain Mrs. Byanyima has also noted the need to challenge and call for the removal of established laws and policies that promote discrimination.

The UNAIDS Chief Executive Director was speaking when she officiated at the 2021 youth prevention advocacy campaign by the Zambia youth platform where she officiated as guest of honor last evening.

She says it is common in most African setups to have norms and policies that promote stigma on persons living with hiv/aids especially women.

Mrs. Byanyima says discriminating on omen and making them feel less equal is an infringement on their fundamental human rights.

She has since commended the Zambia youth platform for standing out as champions on prevention on hiv/aids

Speaking at the same event, Zambia Youth Platform Executive Director Sibu Malambo says the organization will continue to bring together various stakeholders in promoting awareness on hiv/aids especially among young people.
