Seasoned Economist Professor Oliver Saasa has given Transparency International Zambia (TI-Z) a 48-hour ultimatum to withdraw the statement made by it’s President Sampa Kalungu about his involvement in the Expansion Investment Evaluation Consultancy of First Quantum Minerals.

Yesterday, TI-Z issued a statement attributed to Mr. Kalungu requesting State House to provide clarity and assurance that there will be no conflict of interest in the evaluation of FQM by Premier Consult where Professor Saasa is Managing Consultant and CEO considering that he’s also chairperson of the presidential economic advisory council.

But Prof Saasa says the statement made by Mr. Kalungu was full of inaccuracies and wrong assumptions against him and his firm.

Speaking to Q-News, Prof Saasa has since demanded an apology from Mr. Kalungu for attempting to misinform the nation on his legal standing as well as his firm.

He says the statement is very injurious to his professional life which has a decades-long track record in consulting work both in Zambia and abroad.

Meanwhile, Prof Saasa has dismissed the assertion that he is Chairperson of the President Hakainde Hichilema’s Economic Advisory Council.

He has explained that President Hichilema did not appoint him to any position in government, but only indicated that Prof Saasa would be part of his Business Advisory Council in future, not that he was appointed.
