United Mine Workers Union of Zambia (UMUZ) General Secretary Yosamu Nyirongo has urged government to trade carefully as it considers the return of Vedanta Resources to Konkola Copper Mines (KCM).

Mr Nyirongo has told Q-News in an interview that Vedanta left the country in very bitter circumstances following legal battles with government over unfavorable working conditions for workers among other reasons.

He says should government agree to bring Vedanta back, there will be need for all concerned stakeholders to come together and ensure that the clause in the proposal by Vedanta to government to normalize workers’ conditions of service is enforced.

Mr. Nyirongo says failure to do so may result in history repeating itself where the investor starts fighting legal battles with government and workers protesting.
