Govt issues 20 applications forms for timber concession licenses in Lusaka province

Ministry of green economy and environment principal forestry officer, Catherine Zulu says the ministry has so far issued 20 applications forms for timber concession licenses in Lusaka province.

Ms. Zulu disclosed that in Lusaka province, government has recommended two areas for the issuance of timber concession licenses which are Luangwa and Lufunsa forests.

He says the applications are limited and highly competitive and that applicants must ensure all their documentations are in order and are submitted before the one month extended deadline of 30th June, 2022.   

And Ms. Zulu has projected an increase in the forestry sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product GDP from the current 5 percent to a double digit figure.

And Ministry of green economy and environment forestry officer, Morgan Kaluwe has stressed the need to ensure programs to do with afforestation are up scaled to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Mr. Kaluwe says forestry plays an integral role in mitigating the effects of climate change both on the environment and human health, the more reason why people should ensure they plant more trees to address this phenomenon.
