The Department of Immigration over the weekend nabbed Four-Hundred and Thirty-Six (436) suspected illegal immigrants during a cleanup operation in Lusaka.
Department public relations officer, Namati Nshinka says after the screening exercise, the officers released Fifty-Seven (57) persons upon production of proof of legal immigration status in Zambia and mandated Seventy-Two (72) to report to Immigration Headquarters for further investigations.
Mr. Nshinka says the Department detained Three Hundred and Thirteen (313) suspected illegal immigrants pending other formalities.
He says the department is concerned by the growing trend where some members of the public are harboring illegal immigrants by providing them with accommodation, lodging facilities, and sub-letting to them immovable property such as shops and market stalls.
