Minister of Community Development and Social Services Doreen Mwamba has disclosed that the National Children’s Code Bill will finally be presented to Parliament for enactment in the next sitting.

Mrs Mwamba made the assurance during the launch of the ChildFund Zambia Country Strategic Plan for the period 2022 to 2026.

She says the Bill which is at Cabinet level has been delayed by wider stakeholders’ consultations.

Mrs Mwamba says once the bill is enacted into law, it will ensure that Zambia has a protective environment for every child.

She says President Hakainde Hichilema and the New Dawn government is committed to ensure that every child is supported to develop to their full potential as exemplified through the introduction of the Free Education Policy regardless of their background.

Mrs Mwamba adds that government is currently reviewing the Social Protection Bill of 2014 to protect vulnerable children especially those living with disabilities.

And the Minister has commended ChildFund Zambia for the launch of the Country Strategic Plan which she says will go a long way in complementing government efforts in protecting children in Zambia.

Speaking at the same event, ChildFund Zambia Board Chairperson Professor Tuckson Lambert said he is confident that the Country Strategy will be an effective roadmap in achieving ChildFund’s vision whilst complementing the efforts of the government.
