Pardoning of over 2,000 prisoners excites PRISCA

THE Prisons Care and Counseling Association (PRISCA) has described as generous and unprecedented, the pardoning of over 2,000 prisoners by President Hakainde Hichilema.

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has pardoned 2,045 inmates to mark this year’s Africa Freedom Day WHICH FALLS TODAY, of which 1,969 are ordinary inmates and 33 old aged.

PRISCA executive director, Godfrey Malembeka says the gesture is unprecedented for a head of state who has only been in office for less than a year.

Mr. Malembeka tells Q news that President Hichilema has shown his political will to ensure that his pledge of changing things for the better for those in incarceration starts to be implemented.

He has encouraged the pardoned inmates to form cooperatives and come up with good business proposals that will help them start up initiatives that will sustain their stay out of prison.
