The Zambian Roads & Highway Safety Group (ZRHSG) has appealed to President Hakainde Hichilema to consider flying out of State House or City Airport whenever he is flying out of the capital to help decongest traffic on the Great East Road.

In a statement availed to Q-news, ZRHSG Administrator, Mthoniswa Banda has noted that each time the President is flying out, traffic congestion is worsened on the already congested stretches of the Great East Road between Manda Hill and Airport Turn-off by the presidential motorcade and the scores of vehicles belonging to ministers, defence chiefs and civil servants who go to see-off the President.

Mr. Banda says the President should consider flying out of State House using a helicopter to the airport or alternatively flying out of Lusaka using the ZAF City Airport.

He believes if the President avoids using the Great East Road and KK International Airport for his trips, traffic pressure already being experienced on the Great East Road will not be made worse.

Mr. Banda has also suggested the further expansion of the Great East road and the Airport road in order to address the traffic congestion.
