The Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) has refuted allegations that the reintroduction of licensure examinations for health students is meant to cut down on the number of health practitioners to be employed in the health sector.

HPCZ Public Relations Manager, Terry Musonda has told QTV news that the move is meant to ensure the health sector has qualified and competent human resource, adding that this is one mechanism that will ensure quality assurance.

Mr. Musonda says council is aware that the move has been received with mixed feelings by some stakeholders in the health sector, but that this should be seen as an opportunity for students to demonstrate patient based skills earned from their various respective learning institutions.

He says licensure examinations should be viewed in a positive light especially with the mushrooming of health training institutions which requires accessing practitioners before they are licensed.
