DEC receives 106 reports, arrests 32

The Drug Enforcement Commission says it received a total of 106 reports during the first quarter of 2022, involving K126, 218,222.54 and US$5,834,622.00 compared to 29 reports received during the same period under review in 2021 representing a 265 percent increase.

In a statement to give statistics for the first quarter of 2022, DEC Public Relations Officer, Mathias Kamanga says from the 106 reported received, thirty-two people were arrested involving a total sum of K5,082,041.

Mr Kamanga says the Commission during the period under review seized a total of 20 properties which included land and buildings and 56 motor vehicles.

He adds that five people were convicted in five cases under the Anti-Money Laundering Investigations Unit during the period under review.

Meanwhile Mr Kamanga says the commission seized a total of k343, 400 and US$6,800.00 of counterfeit notes at the end of the period under review.

He further states that the commission arrested 1,233 persons for various drug related offences countrywide, representing a forty-six (46) percent increase from 832 arrests recorded in the same period in 2021.

Mr Kamanga says of the total arrests recorded for drug related offences, 1060 comprised males and 87 were females, with 76 being juveniles.
