The Millers Association of Zambia has attributed the continued high cost of mealie meal to the increase in price of maize and inconsistencies in fuel prices.

Association president Andrew Chintala says the price of maize has gone up from K3, 200 per metric ton to K4000 leading to the increase in the price of mealie meal.

Mr. Chintala tells QTV news that the millers have equally been affected by the monthly upward adjustments of petroleum products as this is one of the major components in the costing structure of the commodity.

He however, states that the association is hoping to see a reduction in mealie meal prices as the country gets into the new maize marketing season.
