Govt urged to do away with appointments based on political patronage

Opposition New Heritage Party President Chishala Kateka says there is a need for the country to do away with appointments based on political patronage and tribe if the economy is to recover.

In a statement availed to QTV news, Ms Kateka says appointments must be based on merit because the country is in such a mess that it needs the best brains to help resolve its issues.

She says her party has over the years been horrified with the inclusion of certain individuals in the Cabinet when they clearly lack the capacity to operate at that level.

Ms Kateka has further wondered whether it is not possible to reward cadres in other ways rather than continuing to disadvantage the nation through less than optimal talent.
