The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia executive director Aaron Chansa has stressed that lack of financial literacy amongst teachers is a source of poor financial management by most teachers in the country.

Mr. Chansa says lack of entrepreneurial skills among the teachers is other major contributor to teachers getting into unsustainable debts amidst the high cost of borrowing from the financial lending institutions.

He notes with sadness that some teachers are dying prematurely because of the financial stress arising from failure to manage resources and the failure to settle huge debts they get themselves into.

Mr. Chansa says about 90% of teachers are in debt, a situation he says is worrying to the education sector.
