The Zambia national education coalition (ZANEC) has called for the development and adoption of a more flexible system and criteria that will highly prioritize vulnerable children to be selected as beneficiaries of the impending presidential education fund for orphans.

Recently, president Hakainde Hichilema confirmed that he has not taken his salary since being elected and that his salary will be channeled towards the education of orphans in the country.

Speaking in an interview with q-news, ZANEC executive director, George Hamusunga says while his organization welcomes the gesture by the president to give his salary to support education of orphans, they are concerned with the criteria that will be adopted in selecting the beneficiaries.

Mr Hamusunga adds that ZANEC will be happy if the said monies will benefit the most vulnerable children in rural areas who are willing to access high education.
