Smart Zambia Institute has stressed the need for the country to invest in satellite technology that will help in convenient and cheaper delivery of essential government services.

Institute national Coordinator, Percy Chinyama states that government will closely work with the private sector to ensure that satellite technology is advanced in the country.

Mr. Chinyama says satellite technology will help in the Agriculture and ecology sectors in knowing the best fertilizers and early warning for disasters that might be coming.

Mr Chinyama said this when he presented a recognition award to Ignitos Space Zambia which emerged winner at a global pitch competition held during the space conference in Nairobi, Kenya.

And Ignitos Space Zambia Chief Executive Officer, Ahmadi Hamwi says Zambia is losing a lot of revenue due to lack of satellite connectivity.

Mr Hamwi has since assured his company’s commitment to helping Zambia connect through satellite.

He says the company targets to launch six new satellites in 2023 which will be uniquely designed for Zambia and the Southern African region.
