Call boys protests at Lusaka’s intercity bus terminus

Assistance bus station operators popularly known as call boys operating at Lusaka’s intercity terminus this morning staged a protest over Lusaka city council decision to ban them from the station.

The bus helpers who are allegedly accused of harassing the passengers barricaded the Dedani Kimathi road with burning tires preventing the motorists to have an access to the station.

Police in riot gears moved in and fought running battles with the youths in n effort to prevent the situation from escalating.

The protest was sparked by the Lusaka city council police that moved in to remove upnd cadres and call boys at the bus terminus.

This followed complaints by some bus drivers and bus owners that the call boys were harassing and extorting money from them.

And some call boys spoken to have expressed disappointment with the authority’s decision saying chasing them from the station will lead them into abject poverty.
