PeP to stage peaceful protest against increased cost of living

The opposition Patriots for Economic Progress has written to the commissioner of police Lusaka division to stage a peaceful protest on 27th April 2022 against the increased cost of living.

According to the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection-JCTR basic needs and nutrition basket, the cost of living for a family of five living in Lusaka in the month of March 2022 increased to slightly over 9, 400 kwacha from 9, 305.38 kwacha recorded in February 2022.

In a letter dated 19th April, 2022, obtained by QTV, the party says the protesters against the high cost of living will march peacefully from arcades bus stop via great east road to Cairo road then church road to Alick Nkhata road to Thabo Mbeki road and back to arcades bus stop.

The party has assured the commissioner of police in Lusaka that it will designate an adequate number of ushers who will ensure that their protest does not disturb the free flow of traffic.

The notice is in compliance with section 5 subsections 4 of the public order act chapter 113 of the laws of Zambia.
