Zambia Medical Association [ZMA] has called on government to engage the Matero Level One Hospital management to discuss on how they can quickly address the sewer system challenge at the hospital.

Speaking during the press briefing, ZMA president Chrispin Moyo argues that the condition of the toilets at the hospital is not as a result of poor management but an overloaded sewer system that is congested.

Dr. Moyo alleges that the management had written to the relevant authorities two years ago to address the matter but it was not addressed hence wondering why the hospital management is being penalized for the matter they have been working on.

He further notes that the continued penalizing of health workers for the matter they have no control over is causing them to work in fear of being penalized by government.

Meanwhile Dr. Moyo has also called on government to promote the supply of medicine from local manufacturers in order to address the shortage of medicines in the country.
