Nine people died during this year’s Easter holiday were a total of 210 road traffic accidents were recorded.
Of the 210 accidents recorded 09 were fatal while 26 were serious road traffic accidents in which 40 persons were seriously injured and 56 were slight accidents in which 64 persons were slightly injured.
Zambia Police Service Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says in comparison with 2021 Easter holiday, 193 road traffic accidents were recorded as compared to 210 road traffic accidents recorded this year showing an increase by 17 percent road traffic accidents.
and Mr. Hamoonga says a total amount of k924, 690.00 was raised as admission of guilt money in 2021 compared k528, 795.00 raised as admission of guilt money in 2022 indicating a decrease in admission of guilt fines collected by k395, 895.00.
He has attributed the increase in road traffic accidents and casualties in 2022 Easter holiday to non-compliance to road traffic rules and regulations by some motorists and road users.
