The Zambia National Women’s Lobby has condemned the harassment of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Lilian Siyunyi by some members of the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).

Organization National Chairperson Daisy Ng’ambi says members of the UPND should desist from using threats and cyber bullying Ms. Siyunyi as they air their grievances.

Ms. Siyunyi has in the past few days been the subject of verbal attacks on various media platforms from members of the upnd who are calling for her resignation.

And Ms Ng’ambi says Ms. Siyunyi should be protected from attacks by party functionaries to preserve the integrity of the office of the dpp.

In a statement obtained by Q News today, Ms’ Ng’ambi has implored the aggrieved parties to utilize constitutional provisions to register their concerns.

She says it should also be noted that harassment of women in leadership positions compromises their ability to discharge their duties and discourages other women from aspiring for leadership positions.

Ms. Ng’ambi adds that this results in reduced numbers of women in decision making positions which can negatively affect the nation’s democracy and development.

She has since called on the UPND to guide its members from harassing constitutional office holders because if left unchecked, the culture of threats from political cadres will spiral out of control and degenerate into other harmful vice.
