4 additional cholera cases recorded

The country has recorded an additional four cases of cholera bringing the cumulative confirmed cases to 7.

Of the confirmed four cases that were recorded on Sunday, three are from Lusaka while one is from Nsumbu in Nsama district of northern province.

Addressing the nation on various health issues, health minister Sylvia Masebo disclosed that there are four probable cases pending confirmation while a total of 6 people have been discharged in Lusaka after receiving treatment.

The health minister has disclosed that the cases reside in Lusaka are in, Mtendere east, Chilanga middle east, Kanyama, Kabangwe, Matero and Kalingalinga while outside Lusaka the cases have been reported in  Nsumbu of Nsama district.

Ms. Masebo has since urged citizens to maintain high levels of hygiene as cholera is a disease that comes about mainly due to uncleanness.

Meanwhile Zambia has in the last 24 hours recorded 62 new covid-19 cases out of 1,070 tests conducted, giving an overall national positivity of 6 percent.

And Ms Masebo says there were seven new admissions in the last 24 hours with the country now having 821 active cases of which 13 require hospitalization, and of these five are currently on oxygen therapy while one (1) patient is classified as critically ill.

Meanwhile the minister has announced that the bilharzia outbreak in kapululira, chirundu that was reported on 7th April 2022 and had affected 150 school going children, has been resolved.

And on polio vaccination Ms Masebo has disclosed that a total of 1,477,662 children aged 0-5 years in 30 districts have been vaccinated in the first round representing 110% of the estimated target.
