Minister of Green Economy and Environment Collins Nzovu has disclosed that a law is coming that is going to compel all concession license holders to plant trees for every tree that they cut.

Mr. Nzovu says this is to ensure that the trees in the forests are sustained and don’t go into extinction which is a big threat to the fight against deforestation and climate change.

The minister says the forestry department under his ministry will be tasked with responsibility to ensure adherence to this piece of legislation once enacted.

Mr. Nzovu says concession license holders will not be allowed to move the trees before it has been established that they have planted more trees.

He adds that replanting trees will also ensure that the legitimate tree cutting business is sustained.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nzovu has urged the general public to ensure that they plant trees in their backyards because they protect the ozone layer and the environment in general.
