Three civil society organizations have threatened to ensure that criminal and administrative action is taken against public officials who will fail to declare their assets after assuming public office.

Eleven out of twenty-five cabinet ministers have so far declared their assets more than eight months after the united party for national development took over government affairs.

Chapter one foundation chairperson Linda Kasonde says her organization will write to the chief justice to set up a tribunal to investigate officials that will fail to comply with the code of conduct to ensure that they face criminal action within the next fourteen days.

Ms. Kasonde adds that the declarations of assets and sources of income is important for routine public finance monitoring by civil society organizations and the public and it also protects duty bearers from accusations of unlawful acquisition of assets when they enter office.
