The opposition new heritage party president has challenged government to share the plans it has for the way forward should the $1.4 billion international monetary fund not actualize and the repayment of the  Eurobond that is due this year in September 2022.

Party leader Chishala Kateka says government should also share with the Zambian people, the results of the debt sustainability assessment, the alternative plan if the outcome of the d-s-a and creditors committee discussions does not succeed in light of the complexity of creditor  coordination.

She has observed that there seem to be an impasse or obstacle in the discussions with zambia’s creditors.

Ms. Kateka has expressed disappointment that the conditions under the staff level agreement have not yet been disclosed and yet their impact is already being felt by the Zambian people.

She is further worried that commercial creditors are not part of the creditors committee yet they hold 46% of the external debt while china accounts for 22%.

Ms. Kateka says the information being shared by government is not something that it has openly shared with Zambians but has been pieced together through snippets of what has come to the attention only after the united kingdom minister of Africa’s visit to Zambia and her statements.

The opposition leader says government being a representative of the people of zambia, is expected to share with the zambian public the final outcome of the debt sustainability assessment.
