MoH receives 6 renovated fully equipped operating theaters for pediatrics

The ministry of health has received six renovated fully equipped operating theaters for pediatrics’ and assorted COVID- 19 protective and preventive equipment worth over 5.9 million United States from the Kids Operating room (KIDSOR), a nongovernmental organisation from Scotland.

And the ministry has also received a donation of assorted surgical and medical equipment worth over 350,000 united states dollars from the African development institute(ADDI).

The assorted COVID 19 items donated by KIDSOR include, 6.5 million items of essential PPEs,100 oxygen concentrators,20 ventilators, and over 12,000 accessories.

Speaking during the official handover of the equipment to the Health minister at UTH, KIDSOR Founder Gareth Wood stressed the importance of investing in surgery especially for children in order to cure certain conditions and save the children lives.

And the African diaspora development institute working with the global alliance of Zambian health professionals (GAZHP), have donated 7.6 tonnes of assorted medical supplies and equipment which includes over 25,000 masks, 5000 examination gloves, 3,500 gowns, assorted surgical and medical instruments, and anesthetic instruments with a value of over 350,000 united states dollars.

ADDI president Arikana Chihombori  said the donations is a symbol of how African in the Diaspora want to take a centre stage in helping address some of the health challenges that African nations are facing.

And Health minister Sylvia Masebo says the donations received will ensure that good quality emergency, surgical and critical care is provided as well as also enhance covid-19 prevention and treatment services.
