Minister of Finance and National Planning Situmbeko Musokotwane has noted the critical need to capacitate the Office of the Auditor General with necessary skills and knowledge for effective fulfillment of its mandate.

Dr Musokotwane says the work of the auditor general’s office is crucial in realizing the aspirations of government.

He said this in a speech read on his behalf by secretary to the treasury, Felix Nkulukusa at the launch of the European Union peer to peer twinning institutional support project to the office of the auditor general (EU-OAG) twinning project in Lusaka, with funding totaling 456 million Euros.

The project forms part of the effectiveness and transparency in the management of public resources program, whose overall objective is to contribute to the sustainable and inclusive economic growth through increased mobilisation and effective use of domestic resources.

Speaking earlier, Auditor General, Dick Sichembe says national development is dependent on how well public resources are managed.

Dr. Sichembe says the project helps in enhancing effectiveness and efficiency audits.

And head of delegation of the European Union to Zambia and COMESA, Arnaud Borchard has commended the New Dawn Government for making clear commitments to improve good governance and the fight against corruption.

Mr. Borchard notes that this commitment is already visible with the 2022-2024 medium term budget plan.
