Opposition Economic and Equity Party (EPP) president Chilufya Tayali has challenged the new dawn government to urgently come up with measures to cushion citizens from the impact of increased fuel prices.

Speaking in a telephone interview with Q-news, Mr. Tayali says government should not be bound by agreements it has entered into with donors, but take measures to safeguard the lives of the majority Zambian people that would not be able to survive the harsh effects on the economy due to the current increased fuel prices in the country.

Mr. Tayali also notes that there is need for government to redirect the money they had directed to other ventures to the energy sector in order to subsidize the fuel prices.

He states that subsidies are meant to be introduced when the commodity prices become too expensive for the majority people in the country, hence the need for government to introduce subsidies on the fuel prices.
