Minister of Defense Ambrose Lufuma says marijuana farms that will be set up in Kabompo District in the North-Western Province will be under lock and key to avoid abuse from members of the public.

Mr. Lufuma says the Zambia National Service (ZNS) will provide security at the plantations to protect the crop.

Mr. Lufuma says ZNS will set up three cannabis plantations that will create 3,000 jobs.

He tells QTV news in an interview that there is readily available international market for the crop stressing that once the plantations are opened, they will contribute massively to the growth of the economy.

The minister has called on Zambians to support this project by government and desist from abusing it once the plantations are opened.

Last month the Zambia National Service acquired 60 hectares of land in Kabompo District in North-Western Province to set up cannabis plantations for medicinal purposes.
