Govt releases funds for development projects

The ministry of finance and national planning has released 543.4 million kwacha which was disbursed in the course of the week for procurement of drugs and medical supplies in various public health institutions.

Secretary to the Treasury Felix Nkulukusa says this is in addition to the 650-million kwacha released for procurement of drugs and medical supplies in February.

He says in the past week the ministry also released k67 million for hospital operations. 

Mr. Nkulukusa says in a statement availed to QTV news that the treasury also released k355.4 million to the public service pension fund to facilitate payment of dues to retirees under the pension scheme. 

He says 169.3 million kwacha was released to facilitate the on-going implementation of the social cash transfer programme. 

The secretary to the treasury further revealed that government released k100 million under the farmer input support programme-fisp to pay arrears to suppliers of fertilizer and seed for the current season. 

He says in order to remain on course with the strategy of reducing the country’s indebtedness and ensure fiscal sustainability in due course, government released 97 million kwacha to help liquidate outstanding liabilities for previously consumed goods and services under various line ministries, provinces and agencies.

Mr. Nkulukusa has reiterated the call by the Minister of Finance and National Planning Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, for Ministries, Provinces and Agencies to ensure that funds are absorbed and utilized on budgeted projects and programmes in a timely, efficient and effective manner so as to achieve the government’s set transformational objectives outlined in the 2022 national budget.
