The National Health Research Authority (NHRA) has called for increased funding towards local research.
Authority Director and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Godfrey Biemba laments that currently, most of the studies and research in Zambia are externally funded.
Professor Biemba tells Q-news that relying wholly on external support makes it difficult for Zambia to achieve its goals in line with the national health research agenda.
He says external funders only fund research they are interested in.
Professor Biemba states that locally sourced funds are needed to improve the country’s research infrastructure as Zambia needs high-tech laboratories to conduct high tech research such as clinical trials and production of vaccines.
