Govt to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions

Minister of energy Peter Kapala has stressed the need for the country to move towards a low cost, low conflict and low carbon economy in order to cut down greenhouse gas emissions.

Officiating at the commemoration of the earth hour Zambia 2022 last evening organized by the world wide fund for nature Mr. Kapala cutting down on greenhouse emissions will be best achieved through the promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources like wind, solar and geothermal power.

The minister is concerned that 83.4% of households cook with wood fuel and about 16.5% of households cook with clean fuel stoves, mainly electric stoves.

He has since assured of the new dawn governments commitment to addressing the effects of climate change and deforestation among others.

And world wide fund for nature country director Nachilala Nkombo called for collective action by stakeholders towards the fight against climate change in the country.

Ms Nkombo notes that the new dawn government has shown political will towards the fight against deforestation hence the need for stakeholders to supplement its effort by sharing ideas of curbing deforestation in the country.
