Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary Francesca Zyambo has noted the need to deliberately work towards sustainable exploitation of natural resources in Zambia to foster the provision of sustainable energy.

Mrs. Zyambo says through renewable energy, adoption of energy efficiency and energy conservation practices, the dream of delivering reliable, affordable and sustainable energy for future generations will be realized.

Speaking when she officiated at the earth hour Zambia 2022, Mrs. Zyambo says in today’s world marred with inequalities in living conditions, access to affordable reliable and sustainable energy is linked with human development.

She adds that access to energy is key to socio-economic development as it represents the building blocks while empowering individuals and communities through the provision of lighting, heating, communications and transport.

Speaking at the same event, World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Zambia Country Director Nachilala Nkombo says  W-W-F is grateful to the Zambian government for its continued partnership in the earth hour campaign.

Ms. Nkombo says earth hour provides an opportunity to share and take stock of climate change on energy systems, agriculture systems and other life support systems.

She says it is also an opportunity for people to hold themselves accountable in terms of actions that are being taken to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change.

Meanwhile, climate activist Fumba Chama popularly known as Pilato in the music circles has urged everyone especially the young people to take the issue of climate change personal because they have so much to lose than the older generation.
