Permanent Secretary in-Charge of Technical Services in the Ministry of Education Joel Kamoko says government is not against restoring student meal allowances for university students contrary to assertions by some sectors of society.

Mr. Kamoko has told QTV news in an interview that there are a lot of things that need to be put in place within the education sector before the issue of meal allowances can take centre stage.

Reacting to calls by the Zambia National Education Coalition (ZANEC)for the meal allowances to be quickly restored for university students, Mr. Kamoko says government has not refused to attend to the matter, but wants this to be done strategically.

He adds that there is also the urgent need to relook at the function of the scholarship board as a whole to promote good reforms in the sector.
