The media network on child rights and development (MNCRD) has welcomed president Hakainde Hichilema’s recent warning that parents who consent to child marriage face prosecution together with those who marry underage children.

MNCRD executive director Henry Kabwe has told QTV news that the zambia police service should take note of the statement by the president in his state of the nation address and ensure the culprits are brought to book.

Mr Kabwe notes that while political will to end child marriage has been there in the recent past, implementation has been the biggest problem.

He hopes this will not be the case under the new dawn administration, but that pronouncements will be followed through with action to curb child marriage.

Meanwhile some parents talked to in Lusaka have welcomed the pronouncement by president Hichilema to have parents who consent to child marriage prosecuted.

Those spoken to by QTV news say most children have ended up dying because they were not mature enough to handle the responsibilities that come with marriage.
