Child rights advocate Masuzyo Simfukwe has called for harmonization of marriage laws to curb child marriages in the country.

Ms. Simfukwe notes that there are a number of loopholes in the existing laws as the marriage act itself is not very clear as it speaks of any marriage be it of a widow or widower or anyone who is 21 years and below an indication that child marriages is being promoted.

She feels the marriage act allows for children to get married which she says should be corrected if the country is to curb this vice that has seen a number of children drop out of schools and go into marriage.

Ms Simfukwe who is from the advocacy for child justice observes that the political will to put an end to this vice will only yield desired outcomes once the marriage laws are harmonized and start speaking putting an end to these vices.
