Speaker suspends 30 PF MPs

Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti has handed 30 Patriotic Front Members of Parliament led by leader of the opposition in Parliament Brian Mundubile who staged a protest inside parliament on 30th November, 2021 leading to the disruption of proceedings in the house a thirty day suspension.

The suspension is effective Tuesday, 15th March to Wednesday,13th April,2022

In a consolidated ruling on separate points of order raised by Local government and rural development minister Garry Nkombo and his justice counterpart Mulambo Haimbe on the conduct of the PF lawmakers who staged a protest on the floor of the house during debate on the estimates of expenditure for state house, Ms Mutti whose ruling was delivered on her behalf by first deputy Speaker Malungo Chisangano, has further removed Mr Mundubile and Kamfinsa MP Christopher Kang’ombe from the committee on privileges and absences for taking part in the protest.

The Speaker observed that the members of parliament were unapologetic and not remorseful for their conduct after being asked to exculpate themselves.

She informed the suspended members of parliament that during the period of their suspension, they will not be allowed within the precincts of parliament including the national assembly motel, and will not be entitled to salaries and allowances.
