Health Minister Sylvia Masebo has disclosed that the recruitment of 11,200 health workers will commence this month with successful candidates expected to report for duty in April 2022.

In a ministerial statement to parliament to give a roadmap on the recruitment of health workers, Ms Masebo says the decentralized mode of recruitment means that the process will start at district level with all applications made through the respective district health offices.

She says the names of the applicants will then be forwarded to the province where provincial human resource committees will evaluate the applications and forward the recommended applicants to the civil service commission.

Ms Masebo says the civil service commission will then scrutinize the recommendations made by the provincial human resource committees before appointing the successful candidates.

She says the names of the successful candidates will then be published in the state print media.

She says it envisioned that the civil service commission should advertise the recruitment of the 11,200 health workers within the month of march 2022 taking into account that the effective date for treasury authority shall be 1st April,2022.

Ms Masebo has also warned that those found to have made multiple applications in different districts will be disqualified.

She states that the decentralization of the recruitment process to district level will help deal with the separation of families as people will apply from their respective districts.

And Ms Masebo says the current health human resource establishment stands at 63,838 against the approved establishment of health workers of 139,590.

She says this leaves a gap of 75,752.

The health minister has emphasized that the recruitment of health workers is therefore not about the recruitment of one category of workers, but is a mix of among others drivers, mortuary attendants, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, and doctors.
