The Zambia National Union of Teacher (ZNUT) says the Pupil/Teacher ratio has been compromised due to the high number of pupils who have been enrolled in public schools arising from the implementation of free education policy.

ZNUT Public Relations Manager, Godwin Maseka has since called on the government to come up with a supplementary budget to address the challenges facing the implementation of the free education policy.

Mr. Maseka has told QTV news in an interview that this is because the allocation in the 2022 national budget for school grants was equated to the population of pupils then.

He says the increase in the population of learners entails that there is need for more funding to meet the demand arising from the implementation of free education.

And Mr. Maseka has called on government to commence the construction of new school infrastructure.

He says classroom space has reduced due to the increase in the population of learners in public schools.
