Some first year students at the University of Zambia [UNZA] who were left out on Higher Education Loans and Scholarships have staged a protest in Lusaka demanding that government awards them scholarships.

Last year the higher education loans and scholarships board awarded student loans to 2,481 eligible first year students at the University of Zambia from the 10,682 applications received for the 2021/2022 academic year.

But students who stormed QTV offices have called upon government through the higher education loans and scholarships board Zambia to give loans to all 10,485 2021-2022 UNZA first year students who are eligible for the loans.

They have complained that, the management has told them that they will not report to school until they pay their school fees amounting to over k30, 000.

They have complained that most of them are coming from vulnerable homes and their parents cannot afford to pay their fees.

The students have since appealed to President Hakainde Hichilema to quickly intervene in this matter.

They have also urged the government to ensure that all qualified students are given educational loans and sponsorship to attain their education.
