The Council of Non-Governmental Organizations in Zambia has expressed disappointment over the unilateral cancellation of the World NGO day activities by the permanent secretary special duties, Nicolas Phiri.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka this morning, Council of NGOs in Zambia Chairperson, McDonald Chipenzi says the Council will not be part of the unilateral revival of the day by government especially because they were not informed prior to the cancellation of the day.

Mr. Chipenzi says being in the New Dawn Government, the council felt it will not be abused as was the case in the previous government just because they had a different view from that of government, but that this is not the case.

He states that this day is important as NGOs were supposed to reflect on how they have grown, challenged and how they have not done well and how they would move on together with government, especially that civil society organizations are partners of government as they complement government’s efforts and challenge government were they have not done well.

Mr Chipenzi notes that this day is recognized world over and 89 countries were commemorating this day. Speaking at the same media briefing, Council of NGOs Lusaka councilor Guess Nyirenda has emphasized that the NGOs shall not accept to be used and abused
